Blaise Pascal, the 17th century French polymath — philosopher, theologian, mathematician, physicist, all-around Bizzy Boy — is famous for a number of different things, many of the most important bearing his name: Pascal’s Law, which informs the design of the hydraulic lift in your local garage; Pascal’s Theorem and Pascal’s Triangle, which I would explain . . . if I could; my favorite is Pascal’s Wager.
